Ba lined up for Newcastle return, whilst Gomis also on agenda

Demba Ba and Bafetimbi Gomis could be heading to Newcastle United.

Senegal ace Ba only left St James’ Park for Chelsea in January, when the Blues activated a £7million release clause in his contract to lure him to the capital. His time with the UEFA Europa League winners, though, has been disappointing, and Jose Mourinho didn’t even include him in the travelling party for the clash at Manchester United on Monday.

The 28-year-old has scored just two Premier League goals since linking up with the Londoners, compared to the 29 he managed in 54 matches whilst with the Magpies. Alan Pardew is now eager to offer Ba a return to the North East, and is hoping his counterpart Jose Mourinho will allow the striker to leave on a season-long loan deal.

However, Chelsea may hold onto the player until they find a replacement. Despite his non-involvement at Old Trafford, Ba remains third choice frontman behind Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku. Mourinho is keen on Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o, a player he coached at Internazionale, and he could follow Brazilian ace Willian in making the move from Anzhi Makhachkala to Stamford Bridge in the coming days.

Pardew, meanwhile, is believed to have reopened talks to sign Gomis. The France international has been on the radar o the Newcastle boss for some time, and terms were agreed with Lyon for his signature earlier this summer. Although the Premier League side then pulled out of the move, Sky Sports claims the deal could be back on as the Toon look to reinforce their attacking options before the 2 September deadline.
