Bale attempts to end Manchester United speculation

Gareth Bale has moved to end speculation he could be Manchester United bound, by insisting he has no intention of leaving Real Madrid.

The Wales international made a world record switch to Real from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2013, and last season helped them win the UEFA Champions League for the tenth time in the club’s history. Those who doubted the former Southampton youngster could cut it in Spain have since been well and truly silenced, as he has gone on to score 36 goals in 72 matches.

Despite his performances, though, he has yet to truly win over those fans hardest to please at the Bernabeu, some of whom booed him recently when he took a shot rather than pass to Cristiano Ronaldo. There has also been talk that Los Blancos would be prepared to offer him to United as part of a deal for the brilliant David de Gea, the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper.

Whilst the Reds insist they want to keep hold of their number one, who has been locked in contract talks for some time, Bale has dismissed suggestions he could swap the Spanish capital in favour of the North West of England. Indeed, the 25-year-old can’t imagine himself making Old Trafford his home, and is more than happy to remain at Real where his contract runs until 2019.

“I can’t imagine myself at Manchester United,” Bale, who also lifted the Copa del Rey in his debut season, told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. “In a recent interview they asked me if I was unhappy at Real Madrid and I told them I’m really happy here. I’ve got several years left on my contract, I’m enjoying myself, we’re winning trophies and I want to keep doing that here at Real.”

In regards to De Gea, meanwhile, stories broke on Tuesday evening that he had agreed a new lucrative contract with United worth around £120,000-per-week. Although the Premier League giants have not commented on such news, it is no secret they are eager to tie the 24-year-old to a new deal as his present agreement will be down to its final 12 months in the summer.
