Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has no concern over Luis Suarez, who has so far failed to reproduce his best form since arriving from Liverpool.
The Uruguayan enjoyed the season of his career in England last term, when he scored 31 goals in 33 appearances to fire the Reds to the brink of a first league title since 1990. Despite his antics at the World Cup Finals, when he received a lengthy club and county ban for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini, Barca had no qualms about spending £75million to sign him in the summer.
Whereas Suarez was the star man at Anfield, he is now sharing a dressing room with the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Andres Iniesta and Xavi. Playing alongside such talent could, you might argue, take his game onto the next level, but the 27-year-old forward has so far failed to find his sparkling best form and has managed to score just five goals in 16 competitive matches.
His latest blank came in the 1-0 Copa del Rey win over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night, during which he fired over the bar after being presented with an opportunity by Ivan Rakitic. But his lack of goals is not a concern for head coach Enrique, who said: “He (Suarez) gave us solutions, and he was a danger near the area. The goals will come, there are no doubts with him.”
It is worth remembering that despite his brilliant final two seasons at Liverpool – in which he scored an impressive 54 goals in 66 league matches – it took him a while to fond such form in England. For instance, he arrived on Merseyside in January 2011, and scored just four goals for the remainder of his debut campaign, and then only hit 11 in 31 outings the following season.
If Suarez fails to find his best form for Barcelona this season, will they look to cash in on him in the summer? Let us know what you think in the discussion below.
