Luis Suarez was back amongst the goals on Monday, as he bagged two goals in Uruguay’s 3-0 friendly win over Oman.
The 27-year-old is currently serving a lengthy Fifa ban after taking a bite out of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder during the World Cup Finals, which has thus far prevented him from making his debut for Barcelona. He can, though, play in friendly matches, so was an obvious choice for the clash in Muscat.
Suarez scored his first goal on 57 minutes when he scuffed a left-foot shot past Ali Al Habsi, and the former Liverpool striker added his second 10 minutes later when he paced past an Omani defender before deploying his right boot to chip a shot over the stranded Wigan Athletic goalkeeper from just inside the penalty area.
Uruguay added a third through Jonathan Rodriguez, yet the man of the moment had already left the field after being substituted with 13 minutes left on the clock. Suarez will now be hoping he has done enough to persuade his club coach, Luis Enrique, to consider him against Real Madrid when his ban is lifted later this month.
