Caminero confident of keeping Diego Costa at Atletico Madrid

With the transfer window set to swing open next week, Atletico Madrid are hardly losing any sleep over speculation surrounding Diego Costa.

The Brazilian born striker has been in sensational form for the Spanish giants this season, hitting 19 goals in just 17 La Liga matches thus far. He has even impressed in the UEFA Champions League, with four strikes in three appearances.

It has been widely reported that Arsenal and, in particular, Chelsea are plotting bids for Costa during the January window, with the reported release clause of £32million unlikely to cause either club a problem. However, as Atletico look to outwit Barcelona and win a first league title since 1996, it doesn’t appear as though they are losing sleep.

“Right now Diego Costa does not think of leaving, he is contracted to Atletico Madrid,” director of football Jose Luis Caminero told Marca.  “He has renewed with us which is important. He has shown that he wants to continue at this club.”

Atletico have won 15 of their 17 league matches so far, and stand second in the table to Barca only on goal difference. They will also be fairly confident of making further progress in the Champions League. Having finished top of their group they now face Milan in the last 16, with the Italian giants experiencing a difficult time this season.
