Cellino set to pump £20m into Leeds United

According to reports, Massimo Cellino is set to pump £20million of his own money into the Leeds United cause.

The Italian took charge of the Yorkshire giants in February of this year, after he acquired 75% ownership of the club. He has since courted much controversy, most notably for the way he dismissed manager Brian McDermott at the second attempt, and then hired the relatively unknown Dave Hockaday as his replacement. And when the former Forest Green Rovers boss was too shown the door, after just 70 days, there was another shock appointment in Darko Milanic.

But if the Elland Road faithful thought this would steady the ship for at least the remainder of the season, it soon proved otherwise when the Slovenian was sacked after just 32 days in charge, during which he failed to win any of his six matches in the dugout. Neil Redfearn is now the man responsible for the Whites on-field fortunes, having previously impressed whilst in caretaker charge.

Leeds beat Derby County 2-0 on Saturday afternoon to ease their struggles, yet they are still in the wrong half of the table and just five points above the relegation zone. However, there could be some welcome developments in the coming weeks, after BBC journalist Adam Pope tweeted on Saturday evening that Cellino is set to inject £20million of his cash into the club to help cover the losses he claims to have inherited since he completed his takeover nine months ago.

Meanwhile, Sports Witness claim Leeds are interested in taking Sebastian Eriksson from Cagliari, the club which Cellino owned for over two decades. The 25-year-old Swedish midfielder was a target for the Whites during the summer, and it looks as though he could finally move on during the winter window after telling TMW: “In January, I will be twenty-six; I want to play regularly”.

The former Gothenburg star, who has five caps for his country, has been with the Rossoblu since initially joining on loan in 2011-12. He has since made 29 league appearances for the Serie A outfit, yet he has not figured at all this season. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, so Cellino will hope to lure him to England for a nominal fee.
