Ashley Cole has confirmed he would consider a return to English football with Birmingham City, who have expressed an interest in his signature.
Harry Redknapp revealed last month that he is keen to add the former England international to his Blues squad, with the invitation also extended to Robbie Keane. The latter, though, is on the verge of a move to Indian Super League side Atletico de Kolkata where he would link up with Teddy Sheringham.
Cole is in the final six months of his contract with LA Galaxy, and is considering his options beyond his time in the United States. Although he has not spoken with Redknapp or anyone from the club regarding a possible move to St Andrews’, it appears as though such a switch is not out of the question.
When asked about making the move to the Midlands side, the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Roma left fullback admitted to reporters in Los Angeles: “Yeah, I’m just waiting to see, keep my options open. It’s six months left here, so it’s something I’m thinking about, yeah.”
Now 36-years-old, Cole has been in the United States since January 2016. It is understood his current club are keen for him to extend his stay with them in the MLS, but as he earns around £300,000-per-year, he knows he could receive a much bigger salary if he returns to his homeland.
