Clint Dempsey has undergone a medical with Fulham, ahead of making a loan return to the London club during the winter window.
The US international spent five hugely successful years at Craven Cottage, during which time he scored 50 goals in 184 Premier League matches. His time at the club came to an end in the summer of 2012, when he crossed the capital to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Dempsey spent just one season at White Hart Lane under Andre Villas-Boas, before leaving for Seattle Sounders. However, he is set to return to Fulham next month on a two-month loan deal before the start of the MLS season on March 8.
“Clint Dempsey is having a medical over the last couple of days and the next couple of days, so hopefully that will all work out,” confirmed Cottagers manager Rene Meulensteen on Friday. “He has spent so many years playing in the Premier League.
“We know where his strengths lie whether it is coming in from the left or playing as a deeper striker or a number nine depending on who you are playing against. The most important thing is that he will be a good boost for us.”
