Reports in Portugal claim Angel di Maria could be heading to Paris St Germain.
The former Benfica forward has been plying his trade in Spain since the summer of 2010, when Real Madrid paid an initial €25million for his signature, with a further €11million to be added on in incentives. Di Maria helped Los Blancos to the Copa del Rey during his debut campaign, and last term he featured 23 times as they pipped Barcelona to the title.
This season has been a hugely disappointing one at the Bernabeu, as they have failed to keep pace with the Camp Nou side in their bid to retain the La Liga crown. They were also dumped out of the UEFA Champions League at the semi-final stage by Borussia Dortmund, whilst Atletico Madrid denied them a second Copa del Rey in three years with a 1-0 win earlier this month.
Coach Jose Mourinho has fallen out with a number of senior players which, together with his failure to add to the honours list, will result in his departure at the end of the season. And it would be something of a surprise if the 51-year-old, who is widely expected to return to Chelsea, is the only high-profile departure from the Spanish capital in the coming weeks.
According to A Bola, for instance, di Maria will swap Madrid for Paris next season. A report in the Portugal daily suggests the French champions have already agreed a €25million fee with Real for the Argentina international, despite him still having five years remaining on his existing contract and the uncertainty of who will be in charge at both clubs next term.
If di Maria does end up at PSG next season, he will unlikely play under current coach Carlo Ancelotti who, ironically, is being lined up to replace Mourinho at the Bernabeu.
