Christian Eriksen was the toast of Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, and has now revealed he is in talks over a new contract with the club.
The Denmark international was excellent as Spurs overcame their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Leicester City in midweek with a resounding 4-1 win against Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland. It was Eriksen who levelled seconds after the visitors took a surprise lead in the capital, and after Moussa Dembele fired the hosts ahead, he added a third before Harry Kane wrapped things up.
This keeps Mauricio Pochettino’s side on course to achieve their target of a top-four placing, and also keeps them in contention for a title bid as they are just five points off the top. So it is proving to be an exciting season for the White Hart Lane club and its supporters, who will be further buoyed by the news that Eriksen has entered negotiations with the club over a new contract.
“We are talking [about a contract], so it is coming, yes,” the former Ajax playmaker, who has now been in England for two-and-a-half years, told reporters. “Well, it looks positive. As I said, of course there’s a while yet, and I do not think there are any of us who are busy as such. I am very happy to be here. I enjoy every second and I hope, also I try to prove on the field.”
Eriksen could be set to become the second player in recent days to commit their future to Spurs, who also secured Dele Alli to a new four-and-a-half year contract last week. And with Harry Kane dismissing speculation linking him with Spanish giants Real Madrid last week, when he revealed he intends to remain at Tottenham for the long-term, the future certainly looks bright.
