Eto’o longs for Internazionale return despite Ajax talks

Samuel Eto’o has spent the weekend in talks with Ajax over a move to Amsterdam, but a return to Internazionale remains his priority.

The Cameroon international was part of the Chelsea squad which finished third in the Premier League last season, when he scored nine goals in 21 appearances. When his contract expired earlier this summer he wasn’t offered the opportunity to extend his stay in the English capital, and he remains on the free agent list ahead of the new campaign.

Eto’o has been linked with an immediate return to England, where West Ham United are thought to be interested, but he has been locked in talks with Ajax over a move to Holland in recent days. The Dutch champions are looking to add more firepower to their ranks for the UEFA Champions League, a competition the 33-year-old has often excelled in.

However, according to Goal.com, the striker has set his heart on a return to Inter. Eto’o helped the Nerazzurri to the treble during a two-year-spell at the club between 2009 and 2011, scoring a total of 53 goals in 101 matches in all competitions before ending his time at the Serie A giants when he became the world’s best=paid player at Anzhi Makhachkala.

Inter are currently in the market for another frontman, as coach Walter Mazzarri looks to complement current attackers Mauro Icardi, Dani Osvaldo and Rodrigo Palacio. But it is believed club president Erick Thohir would rather explore other options than Eto’o, due to the Cameroonian’s age and reported annual salary demands of around £3.5million.
