Radamel Falcao continues to be linked with a move to Juventus and Real Madrid, but he insists he has no plans to quit Monaco this summer.
The Colombian international only arrived at the Stade Louis II last summer, when the principality club paid a reported £51million to take him from Atletico Madrid. A serious knee injury curtailed his debut season in France, which also forced him out of the World Cup Finals, but he still managed to score 11 goals in just 19 matches in all competitions.
Despite being under contract with his current employers until the summer of 2018, Falcao has been linked with a transfer in recent weeks. Liverpool look likely to end their interest in the 28-year-old having wrapped up a deal for Mario Balotelli, but Italian champions Juventus remain interested whilst Real Madrid, who have accepted an offer of £63.5million from Manchester United for Angel di Maria, would love to invite him back to the Spanish capital.
It had previously been reported that Falcao is interested in leaving Ligue 1 to return to one of the bigger leagues in European football, but speaking after his goal secured a 1-0 win over Nantes on Sunday evening, the former Porto forward attempted to play down the speculation by telling Canal+: “”I’m happy here and I hope to stay.”
Once the window has closed, Monaco will be hoping the uncertainty surrounding the future of their star player will cease to exist. They badly need Falcao to provide the goods, as he did at the Stade de la Beaujoire this weekend, following their poor start to the campaign. The win against Les Canaris was their first of the season, and having lost their opening two matches, they sit fourth from bottom in the table.
