After completing his sensational move to the club, Radamel Falcao revealed he expects Manchester United to enjoy a successful season.
Having finished seventh in the league last season there is no European football on the Old Trafford menu this term, but that hasn’t prevented them from attracting some elite names. Only last week they smashed their transfer record to lure Angel di Maria from Real Madrid for £59.6million, whilst Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo have also joined.
And on deadline day, Holland international Daley Blind was recruited from Ajax. Yet this arrival has been overshadowed by the signing of Falcao, one of the best forwards in world football, who has signed on loan from Monaco for the remainder of the season. And the Colombian is sure the 20-times champions will recover from their poor start to the campaign, which has seen them collect just two points from a possible nine.
“We have very top players,” he said “I admire them. I want to meet them for the first time. I am sure that this season will be great for us. I am very happy to be part of this big club. I’ve waited for this moment during a lot of the year. Now I am a player of Manchester United. It was a very long day. It was hard, difficult. We were waiting until the last minute but I didn’t lose my faith. Now I want to say thank you to God for this. I’m very happy.
“Van Gaal is a very good trainer with a lot of experience. I want to do the best for the team, for him and for the supporters. For me, it was a dream to play in the Premier League. I always wanted to be here because this league is very good, it has very good teams and United is the best team in England. Everything is perfect for me. I need them to train my English. I think they will help me in a lot of things to feel comfortable in the club.”
United have the option to make the transfer permanent next summer, but in the meantime it is believed they have paid £16million for the services of the 28-year-old this season. That is the same price they have banked from the sale of Danny Welbeck, who has ended his long association with the club by making a surprise move to rivals Arsenal.
The England international had earlier been courted by Tottenham Hotspur, but it is understood he was reluctant to head to White Hart Lane and, despite initial protests from United, he had his heart set on the Emirates Stadium. The 23-year-old has signed a long-term deal with the Gunners, and is likely be given a central striker role.
