Aly Cissokho has completed his loan move to Liverpool.
Brendan Rodgers is determined to see the Reds challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, as he looks to return UEFA Champions League football to Anfield. Keeping Luis Suarez, who has been engineering a move from Merseyside for much of the summer, was a priority, and this appears to have been accomplished.
Joining the Uruguayan in the Liverpool squad this season is goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, forwards Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas, and free transfer signing Kolo Toure. And now France international fullback Cissokho has become addition number five, after the Valencia star signed a season-long loan deal with Rodgers’ club on Tuesday.
“I’m very happy to be here,” the 25-year-old told the official club website. “I think we have a great team and great fans and together we can achieve big things. It’s going to be a great experience to be able to rub shoulders with the club’s top-quality players, and of course playing for the club for the first time is something I’m excited about.”
Last week, Cissokho revealed he had an offer to join the Reds, but this was later denied by Rodgers. But the former Porto and Lyon ace, who won his only cap for Les Bleus in a friendly match with Norway three years ago, will challenge Spaniard Jose Enrique for a starting berth for the 18-time English champions.
