Fulham take former Real Madrid youth defender

Fulham have added former Real Madrid youngster Marcelo Amado Djalo to their squad.

The Spaniard spent three years in the Bernabeu youth system without ever making it to the first team, and also had two years with Juventus where again he struggled to make the grade.

Djalo has more recently been with Deportivo Lugo in the Segunda Division, and after an impressive season the Cottagers have paid an undisclosed fee for his signature.

“It’s a big club, an emblem of the city, and for me it’s a proud moment,” he told the club website. “I want to be here, I want to work here, I want to grow as a person and a footballer at this great club.”

Djalo has signed a three-year contract with the Championship club, with an option to tie the 23-year-old central defender, who stands at 6ft 4in, for another 12 months.

Elsewhere, in another boost for Slavisa Jokanovic, Tom Cairney has signed a one-year extension to his contract which is designed to keep him at the club until the summer of 2021.
