Hummels not in talks with Barcelona, insists his father

Mats Hummels is not holding talks with Barcelona over a summer transfer.

The German international is regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe, and he is an integral part of a Borussia Dortmund side chasing Champions League glory this season. And despite being under contract for another three years, he is constantly linked with a big-money move.

Manchester City and Manchester United are said to be admirers of the 24-year-old, but earlier this week it was claimed by Bild that the player was in advanced talks over a summer move to Barca, as the Spanish giants look for a long-term successor to Carles Puyol.

However, whilst Hummels’ father admits he son dreams of playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe in the future, he insists no talks have taken place regarding a switch to the Camp Nou for the former Bayern Munich youngster, who initially joined Dortmund on loan in 2008.

“We have never had any contact from FC Barcelona, despite all the rumours,” said Hummels senior. “Any player with ambition dreams of one day playing for Barcelona, Real Madrid or Manchester United. But I do not think Mats is likely to be transferred.”

Hummels, who has won two Bundesliga titles during his time at the Westfalenstadion, is valued at around £25million, and this is a price his suitors would likely be prepared to pay for his signature. Having allowed Shinji Kagawa to leave for Old Trafford last year, and with Robert Lewandowski tipped to depart in the coming months, it could be a difficult summer for Dortmund.
