Liverpool are finally back on track, claims Henderson

Jordan Henderson believes Liverpool are once more a match for any team in the Premier League now they have rediscovered their form.

The Reds enjoyed a sensational 2013/14 campaign which almost ended in a first league title since 1990, until they collapsed at the final hurdle when they lost at home to Chelsea and threw a 3-0 lead away to draw at Crystal Palace. This meant they ended the season two points behind champions Manchester City, which was still an impressive showing.

Star man Luis Suarez left for Barcelona in a £75million transfer though, and there is no doubt that this has had a damaging impact on the team. But results and performances have slowly and surely improved in recent weeks, and following the 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night, Henderson believes Brendan Rodgers’ team are a match for anyone.

“We always feel we can beat anyone if we keep playing the way we have been,” the England international said on BT Sport 1. “We’ve got some fantastic players here so we’ve just got to keep working hard on the training field and getting results. We’ve got a little momentum; we’ve been playing some great stuff and showing great character.”

The win over Spurs, delivered courtesy of a Lazar Markovic opener, a Steven Gerrard penalty and a late winner from Mario Balotelli, ensures Liverpool remain in the mix for a top-four finish. With 13 matches of the campaign left to play, they are two points behind Manchester United, who have a game in hand yet still have to visit Anfield this season.
