Lloris could face a season of frustration, warns Tottenham defender

Benoit Assou-Ekotto believes this could be a season of frustration for Hugo Lloris, as Brad Friedel continues to impress in the Tottenham Hotspur goal.
Tottenham HotspurAndre Villas-Boas spent £12million on the France international goalkeeper ahead of the summer deadline, and was widely expected to immediately install him as his new number one. However, Friedel was again in fine form before the international break, picking up the Man of the Match award in the 1-1 draw with Norwich City.

The American shot-stopper accepts that, at 41, he will make way for a younger man in the near future, but for the present, he is prepared to battle Lloris all the way for a starting berth at White Hart Lane. And whilst he continues to show good form, Assou-Ekotto sees no reason why there should be a change in goal.

“It won’t be easy for him because there is competition,” the Spurs defender, speaking to RMC, warned the former Lyon goalkeeper. “Number one keeper in the French team or not, he will have to fight to get the position in the team.

“We currently have a keeper that doesn’t make any mistakes, who is very well-known in Great Britain. To start I believe Hugo Lloris will be number two. And if our goalkeeper doesn’t make any mistakes there is no reason to change.”
