Wolfsburg insist they have not received any bids for Kevin De Bruyne, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in recent weeks.
As Manuel Pellegrini looks to regain the Premier League title from Jose Mourinho and Chelsea, he has already added Fabian Delph, Patrick Roberts and Enes Unal to the squad which finished second place last season. And of course the Blues have also smashed their transfer record by taking England forward Raheem Sterling from Liverpool for a fee of £49million.
And it has been reported that City are set to surpass even this amount by luring De Bruyne, the former Chelsea player, from Wolfsburg. The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting midfielders around since leaving Stamford Bridge for the Bundesliga, but despite suggestions of a £60million bid, the Germans insist they have not received any offers.
“There’s no official offer. Kevin’s been very good with me and that’s all there is to say,” coach Dieter Hecking said. “He has no clause, but that isn’t the question for us. We have no offer from Manchester City. We have no offer from anybody. We want to finish this speculation. It’s great for the media of course, but as a coach I have to concentrate on my team.”
De Bruyne made an incredible 21 assists and scored 10 times in 34 appearances as Wolfsburg finished second in the league last season. He also scored in the DFB Pokal final as his side beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1, and he is now sure to play a key role in the UEFA Champions League; whether this will be at the Volkswagen Arena or at the Etihad Stadium remains to be seen.
