Fernando has joined Galatasaray from Manchester City in a £4.75million deal, but has nothing but fond memories of his time at the Etihad Stadium.
Fernando was a Manuel Pellegrini signing for the Blues three years ago, when a £12million fee prised him from Porto. The Brazil international went on to make more than 100 appearances for the Premier League side, and helped them win the League Cup against Liverpool in 2016.
This triumph at Wembley is the highlight of the 30-year-old’s time in England, and he struggled to force his way into the first team when Pep Guardiola took charge. The midfielder made just 14 league outings for City last season, but he has nothing but gratitude for the club as he packs his bags for Istanbul.
“It’s been a pleasure to play for Manchester City,” said Fernando. “The club has looked after me throughout my time here and I have enjoyed the challenge of playing for a top team in probably the world’s toughest league. The League Cup success of 2016 was a highlight for me and something I will never forget.”
