Manchester United agree £75m deal to buy Lukaku

Manchester United have agreed a £75million fee with Everton for Romelu Lukaku, who is hoping to secure a move to Old Trafford before the weekend.

It has for some time been expected that the Belgium international would this summer return to Chelsea, who have lined him up as a replacement for Diego Costa. The latter has been told he has no future at Stamford Bridge, and is likely to head back to Spain and rejoin Atletico Madrid.

But it appears as though the champions are now in grave danger of missing out on Lukaku, with reports suggesting United have agreed a fee of £75million for the striker. This would see the 24-year-old reunite with Jose Mourinho, the former Blues manager now in charge of the Manchester club.

The League Cup and UEFA Europa League winners are said to be eager to wrap up a deal before the weekend, as they are due to resume pre-season training on Saturday before jetting off to Los Angeles on Sunday and want the former Anderlecht youngster on board with his new team-mates.

The addition of Lukaku would almost certainly end United’s interest in Alvaro Morata, the Real Madrid, who was said to be top of Mourinho’s wanted list this summer. But their refusal to meet his £79million valuation has led them to the Everton star, who scored 25 league goals last season.

Ironically, Conte may now turn his attention to Morata as he seeks a new target man. Failing that, he could instead look at Torino star Andrea Belotti, but missing out on Lukaku will be a huge blow to the Italian who has already endured a difficult summer in the transfer window.
