Manchester United offered fresh hope in Kroos hunt

Felix Kroos admits his brother Toni has spoken to him about Manchester United’s desire to sign him, which is sure to be of interest to David Moyes.

It has been widely reported that the Reds boss was keen to sign the German international during the recent January transfer window, and although he received little encouragement, he is expected to make a firm approach at the end of the season if the player has not signed a new contract at Bayern Munich. His current deal is set to expire in 2015, but the European champions are determined to tie him to new long-term agreement.

And Moyes will no doubt be buoyed by comments made by Kroos’ younger brother Felix, who also plies his trade in the Bundesliga, with Werder Bremen. The 22-year-old claims he has discussed a move to Old Trafford with his sibling, and this is likely to raise optimism in the red half of Manchester that a transfer could be in the pipeline.

“We have already talked about it,” Felix Kroos, a German Under-21 international midfielder, told Sky Germany. “Manchester United has been the team of my dreams since I was a child. However, I don’t give him any advice. He will take a good decision for himself. There are worse situations than having to decide something like that.”

It would still be a surprise if Bayern were to agree to let Kroos leave the Allianz Arena, particularly given his recent performances for Pep Guardiola’s side. As well as impressing and scoring in their 2-0 UEFA Champions League win at Arsenal last month, he was again in fine form as he completed 90 minutes of the 5-1 win over Schalke at the weekend, which took his appearance total in the three main competitions to 32.

Moyes, meanwhile, has been linked with another German ace, in the shape of Matthias Ginter. The United boss was in attendance to see the 6ft 2in defender in action as Freiburg took on Hertha Berlin last month, as he considers replacements for Serbian international Nemanja Vidic, who will leave when his contract expires in the summer.

Ginter still has three years remaining on his existing contract at the Mage Solar Stadion, and he is rated at around £10million. When asked about the reported interest from United, the 20-year-old supposedly said: “If it is true, I am of course honoured and excited. On the other hand, there is still a long way to go until we reach the summer.”

And the speculation in regards to United targets doesn’t end there. As well as Kroos and Ginter, Bild claim the Premier League champions have set their sights on Uruguay international Edinson Cavani. The former Napoli ace only linked up with Paris St Germain in the summer for a fee of around £52million, and he has scored 14 goals in 22 league matches, as well as four in five UEFA Champions League outings.

Of course, with the Reds looking increasingly likely to miss out on Champions League qualification for next season, Moyes could find it difficult to attract the very best players Europe has to offer. Yet on the other hand, some reports claim the former Everton boss will be given a transfer kitty of as much as £200million to spend on his squad.
