Michu has called on Swansea City to enter the transfer window in January, and lure compatriot Iago Aspas from Liverpool.
Forward Aspas joined the Reds from Celta Vigo during the summer, in a deal which set them back a fee of around £7.5million. The 26-year-old, though, has struggled to make an impact in England, although his chances have been hindered by a thigh injury which has restricted him to just seven appearances.
The Spaniard has failed to score for Liverpool during these outings, of which four have come from a starting position. Of course, Brendan Rodgers also has, when fit and available, the prolific Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge at his disposal, and these two have scored a staggering 25 goals between them already.
For this reason it is unlikely that Aspas will force his way into the starting XI on a regular basis any time soon. However, the former Celta ace could get rack up a healthy number of appearances in his debut season in the Premier League, if Michu can persuade Michael Laudrup to move for him in the New Year.
“We are hoping he can come here on loan,” Michu is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror. “It would be a pleasure to play with him. Iago has had injuries, but he has quality. He deserves to play in the Premier League. He has been unlucky. At Liverpool, they have Suarez and Sturridge, who have scored a lot of goals. Suarez is, along with Diego Costa and others, one of the best strikers in Europe.”
The Swans were linked with Aspas, and looked like the frontrunners to sign him, before they were pipped to his signature by the Reds.
Meanwhile, Laudrup has suffered a blow with the news that Michel Vorm faces up to five weeks on the sidelines having experienced further discomfort with his long-standing knee injury. The 30-year-old Dutch ace will now undergo surgery to solve the problem, with Gerhard Tremmel set to deputise in his absence.
