AC Milan have confirmed they have signed Adel Taarabt on loan for the rest of the season, with the view to a permanent move in the summer.
The Moroccan was once dubbed as one of the best young talents in Europe, and was not shy in expressing his belief that he could live up to such potential. However, his spell at Tottenham Hotspur failed to see him make progress, and although he impressed for Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, he couldn’t recreate this in the Premier League.
And after the Loftus Road club were relegation from the top-flight last season, a campaign in which Taarabt featured 31 times, he was given another chance to perform on the big stage when Fulham took him on loan. However, the midfielder again struggled to make a positive impression, having failed to score during his 12 appearances for the club.
Rene Meulensteen, who succeeded the sacked Martin Jol in December, is happy to break the agreement to keep the 24-year-old for the entirety of the season, and this has allowed Milan to take him for the remainder of the campaign. And part of this deal has also given the Rossoneri the chance to sign the player for €7million during the summer.
“Milan communicate that the player Adel Taarabt has been acquired from QPR on loan the option to sign,” read an official statement from the Italian giants.
Taarabt becomes the fourth new addition to Clarence Seedorf’s squad this month. At the latter stage of last year deals were already in place for the signings of Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow and Valencia defender Adil Rami. And last week, the San Siro side took Ghanaian international Michael Essien from Chelsea on a free transfer.
