Mourinho insists Chelsea have no plans to sign Pogba

Paul Pogba may be regarded as one of the best talents in world football, but Jose Mourinho insists Chelsea aren’t thinking of signing him.

Since leaving Manchester United having failed to make their first team picture the midfielder has been one of the star performers for Juventus, helping the Old Lady of Italian football win the Serie A title in both of his seasons there. It looks certain he will win another Scudetto this term, whilst Monaco await in the last eight of the UEFA Champions League.

Last October Pogba signed a new contract to keep him in Turin until the summer of 2019, but this hasn’t stopped the speculation over his future. His former club would reportedly love to take him back to Old Trafford, whilst their City rivals from across Manchester are also keen as are Spanish giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain of his homeland.

One club who don’t appear to be considering a move for the midfielder, though, is Chelsea. The Premier League leaders certainly have the funds to bid for the £50million-rated 22-year-old, but Mourinho believes he has another options in this position with the likes of Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and even Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the promising 19-year-old.

“I don’t think about Pogba or other players,” he said. “The only thing I can tell you is we look at our midfield players. And between Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas, Ramires, Rueben, Mikel is injured – we have a good group and I believe a lot in Rueben. Next season the squad will be made in a way that Reuben will not be a number, he will compete for a position.”

Despite their elimination from the Champions League against PSG last week, the Blues have already won the League Cup this season and look almost certain to win a first league title since 2010. The Stamford Bridge club hold a six-point advantage over champions Manchester City with a game in hand, ahead of the trip to Hull City on Sunday afternoon.
