Jose Mourinho insists he is at Chelsea for the long-term, having already fulfilled his ambitions to coach in Italy and Spain.
The self-proclaimed Special One has earned a reputation as something of a wanderer during his managerial career, having never spent more than three full seasons at any one club. Indeed, his previous spell at Stamford Bridge equated to three-and-a-half years, yet upon his return he signed a contract which ties him to the club for four years.
Mourinho insists he fully intends to see out this deal, and has in the past indicated he would even like to stay beyond this timeframe. And having already coached in Italy with Internazionale and in Spain with Real Madrid, the 50-year-old insists there is no reason for him to look for another challenge now he has lived such experiences.
“It’s a different job for me at Chelsea this time,” he said. “It’s time to be different because of my own project of life. I have had my career project since the beginning. I wanted to work in Italy, Spain and England. I wanted to try to win the leagues in these big football countries.
“I was so happy at Inter Milan, but the only reason I left was because I wanted to go to Spain. Otherwise I would have stayed at Inter. At this stage I don’t have these ambitions. At this moment I know where I want to be, it’s so simple.”
