According to reports in the Sunday Mirror, David Moyes is expected to replace Sam Allardyce as manager of West Ham United in the summer.
Since an ill-fated 10-month spell at Manchester United, who turned to him to succeed the great Sir Alex Ferguson, Moyes has been busy rebuilding his reputation at Real Sociedad. Having taken over the Basque club’s first team affairs in November, the Scot has taken them well clear of the relegation zone, and they are now fighting to finish in the top-half of La Liga table.
But despite the good work he has done, his employers consider this to be merely be the minimum of what was expected of him. And it is claimed that should an offer arrive for his services during the summer, as long as it is a suitable one which would make releasing him from his 18-month contract, then La Real would be willing to thank him and send him on his way.
And according to the Sunday Mirror, this could mean Moyes is back in the Premier League in time for the 2015/16 campaign to begin in August. The tabloid claim the 52-year-old, who did a stellar job whilst in charge of Everton for over a decade, ‘looks certain’ to end up at West Ham, claiming their owners consider him to be a good fit to replace Allardyce in the summer.
The 60-year-old has been at the helm at Upton Park since 2011, and although he led them to the Premier League at the first attempt and has since established them in the top-flight, he has never had the full backing of the supporters, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it has been widely suggested for some time that he will not be offered a fresh deal.
If Moyes is handed the job from the summer onwards, he would likely be in charge when the Hammers move to the Olympic Stadium at the start of the 2016/17 season. He would also see it as the ideal opportunity to bury some of the bad memories from his time at Old Trafford, whilst also allowing him the chance to build on the reputation he earned at Goodison Park.
Would David Moyes be an ideal candidate to lead West Ham United into their new stadium, or does Sam Allardyce deserve the chance to bring in this new era?
