Nottingham Forest complete signing of Algeria international

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Algeria international Rafik Djebbour, who has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract.

The Reds had first had designs on the striker during the summer transfer window, but the deal was cancelled amidst claims he had failed to complete a medical. Billy Davies had maintained his interest in the 29-year-old, though, and he has finally landed his target after a fee in the region of £1.2million was paid to Olympiakos.

Djebbour, who has scored five goals in 32 appearances for Algeria, has an impressive record in Greece, having knocked in 39 goals in 56 league outings for his former club. He registered 20 of these last season to be the top marksman in the league, and this was a big contribution in steering the Piraeus-based club to the league title.

The striker has also enjoyed success against some of the top teams in Europe, having scored against both Arsenal and German giants Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League. Posting on his official Twitter account, the player announced that he is “very happy to come to England for a new challenge with Nottingham Forest.”

The arrival of Djebbour is the first piece of business Forest have been able to conclude this month, and ends their hunt for a new striker. Davies will hope his new man can score the goals which will help their bid for a playoff place, something they will achieve if they can hold on to their current position of fifth in the Championship standings.
