Sebastian Schweinsteiger looks set to join Manchester United in the coming days, with reports suggesting a deal has been agreed.
Louis van Gaal spent over £150million last summer to return the Reds to the top four of the Premier League, but next season he wants to launch a bid to wrestle the title from the clutches of Chelsea. He has once more been told he will have a healthy budget from which to conduct his business, and Memphis Depay has already been signed for a fee of £31million.
Matteo Darmian, the Torino right fullback, looks set to join the former PSV Eindhoven winger this weekend, after an £11million deal was agreed last week. And it now appears likely that Schweinsteiger will also be heading to Old Trafford in what would be one of the headline transfers of the summer, with widespread reports claiming an agreement is already in place for the player.
The German international, who will turn 31-years-old next month, has spent his entire career at Bayern Munich, playing a key role in eight Bundesliga title successes, seven DPB-Pokal successes, the UEFA Champions League triumph of 2013. But he is now said to be keen on a fresh challenge, and a move to United would see him link up with former Allianz Arena coach van Gaal.
According to BILD, the Manchester club have agreed a £14million deal with the German champions for Schweinsteiger, who helped his country win the World Cup last summer. The player is said to have reached terms on a three-year contract which would net him around £7million-per-year, and the transfer could even be rubberstamped during the course of the weekend.
