Symons now confident of landing the Fulham job

Having seen Fulham collect a fifth win in eight matches, Kit Symons admits he is very confident of being offered the permanent managerial post.

The former Craven Cottage defender was placed in caretaker charge of the capital club following the dismissal of Felix Magath, who paid for his job after collecting just one point from seven matches. Symons has now been at the helm for the eight games in all competitions, and during this time he has led them to four league wins which has lifted them out of the relegation zone.

The latest success came on Friday night when a Scott Parker goal and a Hugo Rodallega brace gave them an impressive 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic, who had been hoping to move into second place in the Championship standings. And speaking after the match, Symons was brave enough to admit that he is now “very confident” of being offered the job on a permanent basis.

“I haven’t checked my phone yet but I am very confident I’ll get it,” he said. “It has to be getting more difficult, with the team winning games, not to see the obvious thing to do. The chairman is over the week after next. I don’t know what to expect, I understand the process but not when a decision will be made or how it will come about. Hopefully we’ll find out sooner rather than later.”

Chairman Shahid Khan has appointed a five-man panel to find the right candidate for the job, with the likes of Chris Hughton and Steve Clarke said to be amongst the frontrunners. However, it is understood that the players and the supporters all want Symons to be given the opportunity for the long-term, and it is getting increasingly difficult to find an opposing argument.

Should Fulham stop wasting time and appoint Symons now? Let us know what you think by adding to the discussion below.
