Victor Valdes is believed to have decided on a move to Monaco when his contract at Barcelona expires at the end of the season.
The goalkeeper has spent the past 11 years at the Camp Nou, during which time he has won a whole host of honours including six league titles and three UEFA Champions Leagues. Although he remains the undisputed first choice under the recently installed coach Gerardo Martino, he decided to call time on his career in Catalonia some months ago.
Valdes has been linked with a move to Arsenal, with question marks often raised over Wojciech Szczesny, but it appears as though the Spain international will resist the lure of the English capital in favour of Monaco. Aside from the riches on offer at the French club, it is believed the chance to link up with his former Barca pal Eric Abidal, who joined Claudio Ranieri’s side in the summer and has since been appointed captain.
The Spanish giants, meanwhile, are thought to have agreed a deal with Borussia Monchengladbach for their goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the 21-year-old German. Rated as one of the best talents in his homeland, the youngster already has three full international caps to his name, but Martino is likely to try for more experienced cover for Valdes, with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina, on loan at Napoli, a reported target.
