Victor Valdes will not reveal who his next club is until the end of the season, despite reports he has agreed a deal with Monaco.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at Barcelona in the summer, and he surprised many earlier this year when he decided he would not be signing a new deal with the club he has served since linking up with them as a 13-year-old.
A first team regular since 2002, Valdes has helped Il Blaugrana to several honours, including six La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions Leagues. However, he feels that now is the right time for a new challenge in his career, and he has been linked with a host of overseas clubs during the last few months.
Arsenal and Manchester City are thought to be interested in signing the experienced goalkeeper, yet latest reports claim he has already agreed to sign for mega-rich French club Monaco. However, Valdes insists he has yet to make a decision on his future, and wouldn’t announce it anyway out of respect for Barca.
“The time is coming to start to look at things, but I haven’t decided anything yet,” he said. “For me the most important thing is to respect Barca right to the end. I won’t make anything public during the season that may have a negative influence. What’s important is that the team wins and we win the titles that we are hoping for.”
