Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed Alexis Sanchez is ‘very happy’ and ready to make a return to first team contention this weekend.
The future of the Chile international has been one of the sagas of the summer transfer window, as he entered the final 12 months of his contract. It has been widely reported that the former Barcelona star has no interest in signing a fresh deal to remain at the Emirates Stadium, with some sources claiming he is determined to clinch a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
And whilst the Blues are prepared to pay big money to land Sanchez, the Gunners have maintained their stance that he is not for sale at any price. The 28-year-old has yet to feature this season, supposedly due to injury and illness, but as the capital club prepare to travel north to face Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, Wenger insists his talisman is very happy and ready to face the Reds.
“Overall he (Sanchez) looks in good shape,” he said. “He has always been focused on his job. I don’t think he’s too much disturbed by all the noise – players at that level are used to it. Some deal better with it than others. He’s very focused, very happy. Doesn’t mean there’s no chance to extend his contract, though we haven’t managed to do it. I’ll have to decide what I do but he’s ready to play.”
