Benitez fires warning to rivals: Napoli will get even better!

Napoli have made a sensational start to the new season, but Rafael Benitez insists his players will get even better during the coming weeks.

The Partenopei have made a perfect start to the Serie A campaign, recording three wins out of three thus far. A 3-0 home triumph over Bologna on the opening day was followed up with a 4-2 win at Chievo Verona, and last weekend, Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon struck in the last 20 minutes to take maximum points against Cagliari.

Having finished second in the table last season it ensured UEFA Champions League qualification, and Benitez, who was appointed as head coach this summer, took his played to Borussia Dortmund for their opening match of a tough Group F, which also includes Arsenal and Marseille, who have both made good starts to their domestic campaigns.

Dortmund captured the imagination of the footballing world last term when they finished runners-up in the Champions League, but Napoli proved too strong for them on Wednesday night when they recorded an impressive 2-1 win. But speaking after the game, Benitez revealed he expects his side to become even better in the coming weeks.

“I still think we can improve a lot,” he told Sky Sports Italia. “These new players – like Higuain, Callejon and [Dries] Mertens – are of international quality. It is all about giving the group confidence and players like [Marek] Hamsik and [Lorenzo] Insigne are enjoying this style of football. I am sure in one or two months it will be even better.”

Napoli resume their Serie A campaign at the weekend with a trip to Milan, who have started the season with four points from three matches. Their next Champions League challenge will be away to the Gunners, who beat Marseille 2-1 in France on Wednesday.
