This may read like an article from years gone by, but Bolton Wanderers are considering adding Eidur Gudjohnsen and Emile Heskey to their squad.
Trotters fans know all about Gudjohnsen, of course, with the Icelandic forward having made his name in England whilst at the Lancashire club. The 36-year-old spent two years at the Macron Stadium from 1998 to 2000, before going on to help Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea win two Premier League titles and a League Cup following a bargain £5million move to the Stamford Bridge club.
He has been without a club since leaving Club Brugge at the end of last season, but played for Bolton’s Under-21 side against Middlesbrough on Monday after spending the best part of the month training with Neil Lennon’s side. And the former Celtic coach last week told the Bolton News: “The signs are very positive. It’s not a done deal, a lot will be down to finances as well, but I think we’re close.”
And it now appears as though Gudjohnsen may not be the only veteran forward linking up with the Championship side. It has been revealed that former England international Heskey is also training with the club, as he looks to find a way back into game having left the Newcastle Jets after two years in Australia. Whether this will lead to a permanent contract remains to be seen, but the 36-year-old has expressed a desire to resume his playing career in England.
