Cech set to quit Chelsea and could join Real Madrid

Petr Cech admits he doesn’t want to remain at Chelsea as a number two choice, and has hinted at a possible move to Real Madrid.

Since arriving in England in the summer of 2004, Cech has established himself as not only one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but also in world football. A bargain £7million signing from French club Rennes, the 32-year-old has played an integral role as the Blues have won three league titles, four FA Cups and three League Cups.

He also starred as the capital club won their first ever UEFA Champions League in 2012 and the UEFA Europa League the following year, but he has this season lost his place to the excellent Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian was initially signed by Chelsea in 2011, and after impressing on loan at Atletico Madrid for three years, he could no longer be ignored.

Cech accepts his future at Stamford Bridge looks bleak due to the form of the 22-year-old, although he still has over a year remaining on his contract. However, the shot-stopper is unwilling to remain at the club whilst he is no longer first choice, and he admits he will look to leave in the summer and join a club who can offer him regular football.

“I don’t know what the club’s idea will be. It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo,” he told the Idnes newspaper. “But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this. It will be important to sit down with the club, with the manager, to consider all the pros and cons. We will see what will work out the best.”

Cech, who is currently on international duty where he is set to add to the 112 caps he has earned for the Czech Republic, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid where he would replace the legendary Iker Casillas. When asked about such a possibility, he added: “When a specific offer comes I will consider it. There are offers one cannot turn down.”

If Los Blancos do make a move to make Cech their new number one goalkeeper, this would likely be greeted with much cheer in the red half of Manchester. Real have been constantly linked with David de Gea this season due to his sensational performances for United, who are determined to keep hold of him and tie him to a new long-term deal.
