Everton would be prepared to cash in on Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku’s agent claims Roberto Martinez would be prepared to cash in on the striker should Everton receive a suitable offer.

The 22-year-old Belgium international initially linked up with the Toffees during the 2013-14 season, when he scored 15 goals in 31 Premier League appearances in a loan spell from Chelsea. This prompted the Goodison Park club to break their transfer record to sign him in a £28million deal, and he has since gone on to score a further 15 goals in 46 league matches.

Lukaku has gone on record to state his desire to play for a supposed bigger club in the future, although he remains under contract with the Blues until 2019. But French champions Paris Saint Germain have been linked with the striker in recent weeks, and his agent claims Martinez would be prepared to cash in should a suitable bid be made for the player.

In an interview with French radio station Radio Monte Carol which is sure to be received with interest on Merseyside, influential agent Mino Raiola said: “Romelu Lukaku to Paris Saint Germain? We had a discussion with Roberto Martinez. He said he would let him leave Everton if a good offer comes in. But talking about the transfer window now makes no sense.”

It has already been suggested that Lukaku ditched his former agent, Christophe Henrotay, to engineer a transfer. Raiola is one of the most established agents in world football, and has a client list which includes Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic, controversial Italian Mario Balotelli, and £60million-rated Paul Pogba, one of the most sought after talents in the game.

It may well be the case that unless Everton finish in the top-four of the Premier League this season – and they may well fancy their chances due to the collapse of Chelsea – Lukaku will try and push for a transfer at the end of the campaign. It has been reported that PSG are prepared to pay £40million for his signature, a price which could be too big for the Toffees to resist.
