French midfielder Cabella waiting for Newcastle United contact

Remy Cabella admits he would be interested in a move to the Premier League, amid speculation Newcastle United are lining up a bid.

Alan Pardew already has a host of talented French players in his ranks at St James Park, many of whom are key to their surprise bid for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season. The Magpies, who battled relegation last term, are currently eighth in the standings, yet are just six points behind the final UEFA Champions League spot.

The Tyneside giants are expected to add to their squad this month, as they have done so such effect during the past three Januarys. In the winter of 2011 they secured the permanent signing of Hatem Ben Arfa, 12 months later they landed Papiss Demba Cisse from Freiburg, and last year they brought in, amongst others, Moussa Sissoko, Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yang-Mbia, and Yoan Gouffran which saved them from the drop.

Pardew is now thought to have turned his attention to Cabella, who helped Montpellier to their first ever Ligue 1 title back in 2012. The 23-year-old, who has yet to win a full international cap for Les Bleus, remains under contract at Stade de la Mosson until the summer of 2016, admits a move to England would be welcomed.

“For the moment, in my head, I am 100 percent Montpellier,” he told RMC. “If a proposal comes, it is up to the two clubs to discuss and I will think in terms of that. I am not aware of what is happening. Newcastle? Well, we realise that at some point we must leave. I think I am capable of it. England interests me, there are good clubs out there. If Montpellier reaches an agreement with an English club that suits me, I will be happy.”

If Pardew decides to make his move for the midfielder during the course of the month, he could yet face some formidable competition from Manchester United. The champions face an uphill struggle to finish in the top four this season such as their campaign been of disappointment, and with David Moyes looking to bolster his options, he will also be aware that Cabella is eligible to play in the remainder of the Champions League.
