Hart regains his place as undisputed number one for Manchester City

Manuel Pellegrini is full of praise for Joe Hart, hailing his recently recalled Manchester City star as the best goalkeeper in the country.

The England international lost his place in the Blues side to Costel Pantilimon earlier this season, following a number of high-profile errors. However, he has recently nudged his way back in front of the Romanian, and Pellegrini has preferred him for the past three matches, all of which the Etihad Stadium club have won.

Hart was in particularly good form on Boxing Day, as City recorded a crucial 2-1 win over title rivals Liverpool. This result sees the Blues leapfrog the Anfield club in the Premier League standings and just a point behind leaders Arsenal, and speaking after the match, Pellegrini was full of praise for his reinstated number one.

“I was very pleased with Joe Hart, not only today but all the games in the last month,” said the Chilean coach on Sky Sports. “He’s worked very hard for a month and a half and now he’s back to his best because he’s the best goalkeeper in England.”

City resume their title charge on Saturday afternoon, when Tony Pulis and Crystal Palace visit Manchester. They then travel to Wales to face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, in what is the first Premier League fixture of the new calendar year.
