Holland coach claims Chelsea want to sign Sneijder in January

According to Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho wants to add Wesley Sneijder to his Chelsea squad when the transfer window reopens.

The talented playmaker won the treble with Internazionale when Mourinho was in charge of the Italian club, and he has been plying his trade in Turkey with Galatasaray since January. However, according to van Gaal, the 29-year-old could swap Istanbul for Stamford Bridge and the Premier League during the winter market.

“I know Chelsea and Jose Mourinho want Wesley Sneijder in the winter market,” the Dutch coach is quoted as saying in The Metro. “In my opinion, if possible Sneijder should leave Galatasaray and join Chelsea. Playing under Mourinho again would improve his performances and help him regain his form for the national team.”

Sneijder, who has also starred for Ajax and Real Madrid, cost £8.5million when he moved to Galatasaray, but reports suggest he could be available for as little as £5million. Such a price would be of huge interest to Chelsea, and would quash any concerns they may have that the midfielder would be ineligible for the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United, under Sir Alex Ferguson, had shown a strong interest in Sneijder in the past, but it is not clear if new Old Trafford boss David Moyes would be willing to make a move for his signature. Besides, the lure of the English capital, plus the chance of working once more with Mourinho, may be of more appeal to the player.
