Slavisa Jokanovic was understandably full of praise for his Watford side after they thumped Fulham 5-0 on Friday evening.
The Hornets had endured a miserable November, having lost every one of their five Championship fixtures during the calendar month. On the other hand, the Cottagers have been in fine form of late, with Kit Symons banishing their disappointing start to the campaign by turning around their fortunes and taking them on a run of four wins from their last five matches.
However, the form book was well and truly thrown out of the window at Craven Cottage, as a Troy Deeney hat-trick and a brace from Almen Abdi gave Watford a resounding 5-0 win in the capital. Speaking after the match, Jokanovic was naturally full of praise for his players, who he feels produced a performance which was so impressive it can be described as close to perfection.
“We can be happy,” said Jokanovic. “After a bad November we have started December better. It was very close to a perfect performance after some bad results. We played a fantastic game. I must to be happy, I expect my players and supporters go home happy. In the last few games we did not have control and offered up to many presents. Today we were in control. But in front of us is a big space to improve.”
This result lifts Jokanovic’s side up to sixth place in the league table, a position which would secure a playoff play come the end of the season. As for Fulham, they remain in the bottom half of the table, and could be even closer to the relegation zone by the end of the weekend. For Symons, he accepts there is still a lot of work to be done before his side can start to look at the right end of the standings.
“You’ve got to learn from it and there’s quite a lot we can learn from that,” he said. “There is a lot of hard work and a lot of improving to be done. We started very poorly and Watford came out all guns blazing. We gave a way bad goal and then the sending-off makes life difficult. We had a mountain to climb. After the break there was a wonder strike and a sloppy late goal, but the players showed good character.”
