Lazio attempt to stave off Hernanes interest with new contract

Lazio are hopeful of tying Hernanes to a new contract, amidst the constant speculation that he is wanted by a number of clubs.

The Brazil international has been plying his trade in the Italian capital since 2010, since when he has become an integral part of their midfield. Hernanes, who has 22 caps for his country, has played 110 times in Serie A, and chipped in with 32 goals.

Recent speculation suggests French moneybags Paris St Germain have set their sights on the 28-year-old schemer, as they look to build a side capable of winning the UEFA Champions League. However, although the player still has another two years left on his contract, his current club are now looking to extend his stay with a new deal.

“Regarding Hernanes’ contract extension, we have a meeting coming up to solve this issue,” Lazio president Claudio Lotito said to Corriere dello Sport. “Am I confident? I am a person that sticks to facts. I don’t get carried away with things that haven’t happened.”

Despite the riches which would be on offer in the French capital, Hernanes, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the past, is known to be happy in Rome. Indeed, just earlier this month, the former Sao Paolo ace openly admitted he was interested in signing a new contract which would see him extend his stay at the club.
