Roma were never worried about Nainggolan reports

Despite the constant speculation over his future, Roma insist they were never worried about reports linking Radja Nainggolan with a move to England.

The Belgium star is regarded as one of the finest midfield players in Serie A, and he has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks. Indeed, it has been suggested his compatriots Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard were eager to link up with him at the latter.

Nainggolan, though, has spent the past three-and-a-half years in the Italian capital, and he is clearly happy after earlier this week signing a new four-year contract. And even when reports of £40million+ bids were being suggested, the Giallorossi had no doubts the 29-year-old would stay at the club.

“Last season, Radja was arguably one of the best midfielders in the world and it’s no surprise that he was linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe,” president James Pallotta said. “But there was never any question of him going elsewhere – he loves Roma and we love having him here.”

Nainggolan has made 160 appearances for Roma in all competitions, since joining them on an initial loan deal from Cagliari in January 2014. The Antwerp-born star has yet to taste silverware, but he has helped them qualify for the UEFA Champions League in each of his three seasons with the club.
