Diego Simeone has wasted little time in the January transfer window, having brought in Jose Sosa from Metalist Kharkiv on a six-month loan.
Los Rojiblancos are currently enjoying their best season for years, as they enter the New Year level on points with Barcelona at the head of La Liga table. Furthermore, they are also well placed in the UEFA Champions League, and will be favourites to overcome Italian giants Milan and proceed to the quarter-finals in March.
Simeone knows the business he conducts in the transfer window this month could ultimately be the difference between success and failure, and he has wasted little time in luring Argentine compatriot Sosa from Metalist Kharkiv. The 28-year-old has been at the Ukrainian club since 2011, having spent the previous year at Napoli.
Sosa began his career in his homeland with Estudiantes, before Bayern Munich lured him to Europe in 2007. He spent three years under contract at the German side, making 35 appearances in the Bundesliga, but he spent the final part of this time on loan at his former club, which ultimately led to his move to Naples for around €3million.
Having already passed a medical at the Vicente Calderon, Sosa is expected to be named in the Atletico squad for the trip to Malaga this weekend. The Argentine will also be eligible for their Champions League campaign, which resumes in February.
