Tottenham Hotspur are reconsidering their interest in Juan Foyth, after Estudiantes slapped an £8million price tag on the head of the young defender.
Spurs are the only Premier League side who are yet to make a signing this summer, a situation which is sure to worry supporters who are desperate for them to build on last season’s runners-up spot. And although Foyth is one for the future, his arrival would certainly have been a positive.
Mauricio Pochettino is thought to have had his compatriot on the radar for some time, and was hoping to fend off competition to lure him to England this summer. But Estudiantes are asking for £8million for the Argentine Under-20 defender, which has made the Tottenham coach reconsider.
Whilst it is unclear if the capital club will revisit their interest with some smart negotiating, there is also a danger they could miss out on Foyth. It has been widely reported that Paris Saint Germain, Inter Milan and Roma also have a strong interest in signing the 19-year-old during this window.
Pochettino is keen to land a new centre-half as the future of Kevin Wimmer remains uncertain. The Austria international has struggled to break the Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen axis in the heart of the Spurs back four, and it keen to find regular first team action elsewhere.
