Wigan Athletic have failed with an offer for Jordan Rhodes.
Having suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, the Latics are determined to bounce back to the top-flight at the first time of asking under Owen Coyle. Eight points from their opening five games leaves them in eighth position at the moment, as the Championship takes a break for the first international matches of the campaign.
Coyle has been told he has cash to spend to boost his squad, and he has tabled an offer of £6million for Rhodes. The Scotland international has been in fine form for Blackburn Rovers this season, with his brace in the 4-1 win over Bolton Wanderers taking his tally to five already.
It is therefore of little surprise that the Ewood Park club have rejected the offer from Wigan, particularly as they paid £8million to take him from Huddersfield Town just 12 months ago. However, Coyle is thought to remain interested in signing the 23-year-old, and is expected to make an improved bid for his signature before the 11pm Monday deadline.
