Ancelotti tipped to succeed Mourinho at Real Madrid

Reports in France claim Carlo Ancelotti is heading to Real Madrid in the summer.

The future of Jose Mourinho has been of speculation for some time, with the Portuguese coach said to be unhappy in the Spanish capital. Despite leading Los Blancos to the title last season, they are this term 13 points behind Barcelona with just six games to play, and a 4-1 defeat at Borussia Dortmund leaves them on the brink of a UEFA Champions League exit.

Real can still end the campaign with silverware if they beat Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey final next month, but even if they do, it will not be enough for Mourinho to pledge his future to the club. And after a disappointing season, it is also unlikely that the Bernabeu outfit will be falling over themselves to persuade him to see out his contract.

Now reports in La Parisian claim Real have already been in touch with Ancelotti, who is currently leading Paris St Germain to their first league title since 1994. And it is claimed that the Italian has already told the French club that he will be leaving at the end of the campaign, as he is ‘close to an agreement with Real Madrid’.

The 53-year-old has one of the most glittering CV’s in European football, so it is hardly surprising that he would be a target for Florentino Perez. Having won two Champions Leagues, the Serie A and a Coppa Italia with Milan, Ancelotti left the San Siro for England where he led Chelsea to the Premier League and FA Cup double in 2010.

As for Mourinho, his link with Stamford Bridge continues to grow. Earlier this week, it was widely reported that he would make an emotional return to the London club in the summer, and has already instructed the board to sign Radamel Falcao. The Colombian international has enhanced his reputation as one of the best strikers in world football whilst at Atletico Madrid, and his signature would cost around £40million.
