Brazilian youngster willing to bide his time for Chelsea chance

Lucas Piazon insists he is at Chelsea for the long-haul.

The 19-year-old joined the Blues in the summer of 2011, when they paid a reported £5million to lure him from Sao Paolo. After impressing at under-18 level and for the reserves, he was handed a fresh contract in January 2012 which is designed to keep him at the club until 2017. To cap off a first year in England, the teenager helped his side win the FA Youth Cup, and he was voted the club’s Young Player of the Year.

Piazon was then included in the first team plans ahead of the current season, and made three substitute appearances during their US tour. He was given his competitive debut in the 6-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the League Cup, and also featured against Manchester United in the same competition. And in December, he made his Premier League bow, impressing as a substitute in the 8-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.

That was his last involvement for the Londoners this season, as he was loaned to Malaga for the rest of the campaign during the transfer window. The attacking midfielder has made 10 appearances for his temporary club, but he has revealed his intention to return to Chelsea in the summer. However, with a new coach set to succeed Rafael Benitez, the Brazilian is prepared go out for another loan spell before fighting for a place in the Blues team.

“I will go back to Chelsea in July and then I think the new manager will decide who he wants to stay and who he wants to send on loan to other clubs,” Piazon told skysports.com. “Of course I would prefer to stay at Chelsea. London is a great city, we have our house in London, my mother and sister live there and I have my friends there.

“I love the club and the people there because I have been for one and a half years and it is quite a long time. So it is my club. It is the club where I want to be. So if Chelsea want me to stay and the coach wants me to stay and play, that will be the best thing for me. If they decide to send me on loan for another season, it could be at Malaga or at another club, then I will try to improve myself so that I can get back to Chelsea.”
