German international proud of Real Madrid speculation

Julian Draxler admits he would relish the opportunity to play for Real Madrid.

Although reports in the Spanish media on Wednesday claim Jose Mourinho has told Los Blancos he will quit the club in the summer, this doesn’t appear to have stopped the Bernabeu outfit being linked with bringing in new players when the transfer window reopens.

The latest star said to be a target for the La Liga leaders is Draxler, the German international, who has enjoyed a fine season in his homeland with Schalke. As well as featuring twice for his country since the start of the campaign, the playmaker has made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Gelsenkirchen side, chipping in with nine goals as they chase a top-four finish.

Reports earlier this week claimed Real are preparing an offer for the 19-year-old, who would link up with compatriots Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira by making the move to the Spanish capital. And the teenager admits pulling on the famous white shirt would be an honour for him, as he reveals a desire to play in Spain at some point during his career.

“I’ve always said I’d like to play in Spain. I try to catch Real Madrid and Barcelona’s matches every week and I never miss a Clasico,” Draxler told Marca. “They are one of the biggest clubs in the world. I’m proud that they are interested. Playing for Real Madrid would be a dream come true.

“I’ve played with Ozil for the national team – he’s a great player and I feel very comfortable alongside him. I’m at Schalke 04 now and am under contract until 2016. Will I be in La Liga one day? Maybe…”
